Feb. 13-16th

Hi everyone,

I hope that you had fun over the long weekend.  The weather was amazing!  I know I tried to make the most of it and spent lots of time outdoors.

Over the last week we have continued to read and research about various prominent figures in our Black History Month studies.  We have also completed the last of our First Nation interviews using the green screen.  This week we will have the chance to view each other's interviews and add to our collective knowledge of some of the First Nations groups located in Upper and Lower Canada when the early settlers began to arrive.

On Friday, we read "The Long Voyage" and experienced just a taste of how crowded and uncomfortable the voyage would have been.  This coming week we will be learning about what life was like for the settlers as they arrived in Upper and Lower Canada.

It was Valentine's Day on Tuesday and we took the time to make our Valentine's Day card containers and to exchange our Valentines.  We also completed "Mad Lib" Valentine's cards and Mashup Math activities.

Wednesday was Flag Day.  We read about our flag and country, and reflected on what it means to each of us to be Canadian.

In Math, we focused on the waste audit graphs for our school.  We discussed the information provided and what it means to us and our own behaviour.  We look forward to seeing the results of the next audit to see if we decreased our garbage/landfill waste levels.

Spelling words this week all had "ful" suffixes (i.e., mouthful, joyful, wonderful, bucketful, careful).  Tomorrow's words will also contain a suffix.

Finally, we continue to practice and perfect our readers' theatre plays and hope to perform them for the Kindergartens/Grade Ones this week.

Have a wonderful week!
Ms. Sparling
