I hope you all had a wonderful week.
As mentioned in last week's blog we were continuing our studies in a number of the same areas.
Spelling continues to be the study of suffixes. This week "ous", meaning "full of". I hope everyone has had an opportunity to study for the quiz tomorrow.
We have been investigating what life was like for the early settlers as they began to clear the land and plant their fields. Students are representing their learning by creating three dimensional displays and writing journal entries in role. This week we are hoping to complete our representations of the gardens and the farm yards.
In math, we continued to focus on linear measurement comparing millimetres, centimetres and metres. We had also focused on making sure our measurements are accurate and why that might be important.
This week we will be adding kilometres into the mix as well as participating in a "Measurement Olympics".
We also broke down another Mashup Math challenge using the multiplication chart and tried our hands at some three-digit subtraction.
Unfortunately we had to spend some of our writing time this week working on letters of apology to our lunch room supervisor. As is always the case, not everyone was involved but we used the opportunity to review what respect is and how we can demonstrate it through out the day. On a more positive note we each wrote our weekly goal and self-monitored whether or not it was being met. This coming week will offer an opportunity to revise the goal or set a new one.
Our Winter Play-day, on Thursday, was a huge hit. Students worked and played together on mutli-grade level teams and were led through the activities by volunteers from the grade 5-8 classes. It was wonderful to see how the students enjoyed spending time with children they might not otherwise meet in the course of their day.
Tomorrow is finally our big day to perform our readers' theatre plays for the kindergartens and grade ones. I know they are just as excited to see our performances as we are to perform.
Have a great week!
Ms. Sparling
