Can you believe it? The month of September is finished! What an amazing month it has been!
If you were not able to make it to portable 4 on Open House, here is a poster of some of the parts of our "cottage" that the students believe you should know about.
We have had another wonderful week of learning and as will be our routine, your child has been tasked with sharing with you what we have been up to all week.
One of our highlights has been figuring out the "mean" and "mode" of our O.R.E.O. stacking challenge. We practiced some great strategies for representing numbers and had rich discussions about the meaning of various numbers and mathematical terms.
We also focused on learning more about Terry Fox and why we raise "Toonies for Terry" and participate in the run/walk each year. We raised money for cancer and supported Ms. Quinn as she donated her hair to be made into wigs for cancer patients, and shaved her head in a show of solidarity with them. Here is the link to her video explaining her motivation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWxcxgoblXM
Last but not least we have been monitoring our seeds germination and growth. On Friday we planted some of our seeds in the soil. We are hoping to plant some of our other seeds next week. If you have any small, clean, empty containers (e.g. yogurt, jello, pudding, etc.) we would appreciate having them donated to our class. We are hoping to have a minimum of four containers per student.
We are also looking for donations of Kleenex and paper towel. Planting can be messy (though we do take advantage of the cottage life style and plant outdoors most of the time) and we are entering cold and flu season. Unscented hand sanitizer/wet wipes are strongly recommended as is a complete change of clothes as there is a lot of mud on the yard with the recent rains.
Please remember that this Friday, October 7th is a Professional Learning Day and there will not be classes for students that day. If you have ordered a Booster Juice for that day it will be provided to your child on Friday, Nov. 4th instead. Sorry for any confusion. There will also be no classes on Monday, October 10th as it is Thanksgiving Day.
Have a great week!
